Good but not as good as VCD-VC20 by Clarence Nagao
I use the Sony VRDMC5 to burn dvds from the DVR or from VHS tapes. The VRDMC5 makes excellent dvds of 2 hours length or shorter, but it has consistently failed to make a complete dual layer recording of a longer movie or show. For some reason, it shuts down before the end of the movie or show. This makes this model much less desirable than its predecessor: the VCD-VC20. I still have one working VCD-VC20 (more than 5 years old) and it still produces excellent regular and dual layer dvds. The VRDMC5 also appears to be more discriminating than the VCD-VC20. Where the latter records on virtually every blank dvd (+R and -R), my VRDMC5 records exclusively on +R blank dvds.

Freedom from the PC! by Marcos Sifrin
This is great! No more using the computer and waiting forever to see the movies. It’s just great. Buy it!

Very easy to use! by Caralyn Paul
This DVD recorder is very easy to use even for someone like me who is electronically impaired.

Performs well by T. Dorman
Great for making regular DVD’s from VHS or from other than Sony camcorders. Will not function for making HD DVD’s from Canon camcorders, but I was fairly sure that would be the case when I ordered it. I have to have a Canon burner to make Blu-Ray disks and a Sony to make standard disks since neither of them will do both. Somewhat expensive, but the only solution that would let me make both Blu-Ray and standard DVD’s from my Canon HF 100 camcorder.
