blew up by Angel B. Dugan
The sound was great, for 20 minutes then I heard a pop and smoke shot out the top of the unit, what a rip off!!!! Will be returning unit for a different brand.

Good Theater Sound by M. Lemons
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1939QI1L5PH8X A short review on this receiver. Plenty of power, HDMI output works fine, 7.1! Powered Sub Wolfer hook up in the back, a great buy, period. Plenty of audio selections to get the sound you want for any occasion. Amazing for pcmi 7.1 surround sound videos (War is one of them.) Or games, make you in the action like you wouldn’t believe. You will love it. I know I do and all my friends are now watching movies at my house.

Don’t Bother by C. Lugo
I have never written a review before but after experiencing this inferior product, I had to. After waiting for a long time for this receiver to be released it was a big disappointment. I have received a total of 3 of these. 2 died and so far number 3 is still running but the front display doesn’t work. The feature set is impressive but only if the receiver works. It runs extremely hot and the sound is not as impressive as it should be. I had a Harmon Kardon AVR230 that performed better. I purchased this receiver because of the HDMI switching Audyssey sound setup and THX certification. I can’t believe that receiver originally retailed for over $1K. I guess that’s why it’s plummeted down to under $700. After this one dies I am getting a Marantz SR-8002. I will never buy Onkyo again.

Great sound and features at an extremely affordable price by C-Money
I bought this to replace my Yamaha RX-V2500. I needed to replace the old receiver because it did not have any HDMI inputs which I needed for my PS3. I wanted to get the best audio quality using PCM. Both the Yamaha and the Onkyo were rated at 130W per channel but only the Onkyo was Ultra2 certified. Judging by the power ratings, I was expecting the similar sound but I was pleasantly surprised that the Onkyo produced so much more power. I could hear the dialog better. It got even better when I popped in some blu-rays using PCM. The sound was much cleaner. I used to think DTS was the way to go, but now there’s another notch up. I would quantify the upgrade to PCM is equivalent to the increased in sound quality from DD to DTS. The bitrate increase is even more than that but my ears probably couldn’t tell the difference. On top of all that, I’m not even using all the features of this receiver. My PS3 decodes all the signals internally sends the audio as linear PCM so I’m not even using the Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master HD capabilities of this receiver. By the way, the PS3 will now decode DTS Master HD with the latest firmware (woo-hoo). Also, I only have a 6.1 setup. This receiver is really optimized for a 7.1 speaker setup. There are many features that were not enabled unless you have 7.1 speakers. However, the Neural THX 7.1 sound mode is pretty awesome. It really does a good job of simulating that setup. Even playing my Wii (which only outputs in stereo), I was able to hear surround sounds coming from my rear speakers. Awesome! I do agree with many others that the receiver runs hot. I could place my hand of top of it but it’s very warm. Oh well, it’s cheap. If it breaks, I can get another one and my total cost would be less than that of a Denon.
